— South Wallingford fiddler Sumio Seo will lead the regular monthly fiddle jam on May 14 at the Godnick Adult Center from 7:15 to 9:15 p.m. The center is located at 1 Deer St. in Rutland.

Seo has been playing fiddle for around 30 years and learned to play in North Carolina. Some fiddlers who have influenced his style are Tommy Jarrell, Melvin Wine, Edden Hammons, Emmett Lundy and Bruce Greene.

“Sumio has been playing fiddle for around 30 years and learned to play in North Carolina,” according to publicits John Crowther. “Some fiddlers who have influenced his style are Tommy Jarrell, Melvin Wine, Edden Hammons, Emmett Lundy and Bruce Greene. Sumio played and performed in the North and South Carolina region at contra dances and festivals before moving to New England in 2004. Sumio is a mechanical engineer and also a ceramic artist. He and his wife run Hartsboro Pottery in South Wallingford, right off of Route 7.”

While the emphasis at the jam is on fiddle tunes, players of other acoustic instruments are invited to attend, play along and take a turn leading a song or tune. Listeners are of course welcome.

There’s no admission charge, but donations are requested.
